Bruce Ford – Curator
Bruce is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Manitoba and Curator of the University of Manitoba Vascular Plant Herbarium (WIN). He has taught a number of courses including the Vascular Flora of Manitoba and Non-Flowering Plants. Bruce’s primary research interest is the systematics of Carex a group of over 2,100 species that is the world’s largest flowering plant genus. Bruce has published numerous scientific papers including treatments for the Flora of North America and is co-editor of the book Sedges Uses Diversity and Systematics of the Cyperaceae published by the Missouri Botanical Garden Press. Bruce serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Flora of North America Project and is a past member of the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada.
Diana Sawatzky – Assistant Curator
Diana is the Assistant Curator of the University of Manitoba Vascular Plant Herbarium with a strong interest in the flora of Manitoba. She manages the databasing and imaging project that is dedicated to capturing the information associated with all of the Manitoban specimens in the herbarium and to make this information available to the wider scientific community. She hosts artists in the herbarium, holding studio classes, workshops, and co-curating resulting exhibits.
Elizabeth Punter- Volunteer
Elizabeth is the retired assistant curator of WIN. She possesses an unparalleled knowledge of the Manitoba flora and this province’s geography. Her numerous collections represent a significant contribution to the herbarium.
David Punter - Volunteer
David is the former Head, Department of Botany, University of Manitoba. He is knowledgeable about the Flora of Manitoba, but has a special interest in the Flora of York Factory and parasitic plants.
Mardi Desjardins - Volunteer
Mardi is a retired botanist, formerly of the Provincial Crop Diagnostic Laboratory, and an avid gardener.
Shaylyn Pelikys - Volunteer
Shaylyn is a Biological Sciences undergraduate student who assists with mounting plants and digital photography.
Jeremy Poortvliet - Volunteer
Jeremy is a Masters in Evolutionary Studies, who assists with mounting and plant collecting.
Dylan Ziegler - Volunteer
Dylan is a Biological Sciences graduate student from B.C. with special interest in the evolution of Dwarf Mistletoe. He is currently focused on completing a PhD in seed development and on teaching Plant Anatomy. He assists with plant identification and and taxonomic research.
Deirdre Khan- Volunteer
Deirdre Khan, a volunteer in the Cryptogamic herbarium with a doctorate in seed development, assists with lichen identification.
Jacalyn Grey - Volunteer
Jacalyn is volunteer pursuing a Masters in Evolutionary Studies, who assists with mounting, digital photography, and filing plants to the collection.
Elise Candas - Volunteer
Elise Candas is a recent Biological Sciences graduate who assists with mounting plants.
